Former GPC Double-Century-Prep Ride Series

Last updated 2012-01-05

For several years (2004-2009), GPC held an informal "double-century prep" ride series. It took place in the early months each year and was intended to help strong, experienced, self-sufficient riders get ready for rides such as the Devil Mountain Double and the Terrible Two. This series is no longer being organized — at least, not in name. However, many GPC members continue to prepare this way and it's easy to join us. Read on . . .

LISTED RIDES. Nearly every month of the year — and for sure in January, February, and March — GPC lists one or more 100-mile-plus rides at M pace, and sometimes at TM or MB pace too. Just go to our home page, check the ride schedules for the current and future months, and join in! Contact the ride leader(s) if any questions.

IMPROMPTU RIDES. Occasionally, impromptu rides appropriate for double-century prep are posted on the GPC club maillist. "Impromptu" means a ride not on our published ride schedule and announced only a few days in advance. Such rides may come up for any number of reasons, including a perceived gap in the ride schedule, or as a variation on a formally-scheduled ride (for example, a TM version of an M-pace ride, or vice versa). Impromptu rides may be quite informal indeed: possibly no route sheet, possibly no lunch stop specified in advance, and far lower turnout than an official listed ride. It all depends on the specifics of the day. Yet, these can be great rides! So, it helps to join GPC and get on the club maillist.
